KTM 390 Adventure coming soon?

Reports coming out of India allege that rumoured KTM 390 Adventure plus smaller 200 Adventure models will debut soon.

There are no doubts that the idea of a small capacity KTM Adventure model range holds high interests amongst many fans. However, the rumour of a KTM 390 Adventure model has been around for quite some time, with each report promising a launch much sooner than the last.

With that in mind, it is easy for you to understand why we take a huge pinch of salt about the recent new rounds of reports coming out of India about the rumoured model’s alleged launch date in April or May this year. What’s different about these new reports though against previous rumours are the new allegations of the 390 version being accompanied by a smaller KTM 200 Adventure model as well.

Rumours of KTM’s baby ‘390 Adventure’ model have been around since 2014 at least. This is kept alive now with these series of new reports, but we reckon the hype is being generated in droves thanks to a series of renderings published by Indian site RushLane.

It is easy to deduce that the supposed KTM 390 Adventure will be based upon the KTM 390 Duke naked model. Of course, the Adventure version will feature dual-sport aesthetics such as a raised ride-height, large windscreen, and perhaps it would gain with a set of spoked wheels plus knobby off-road tyres too.

The newly reported and smaller KTM 200 Adventure model, on the other hand, will naturally underpin the KTM 200 Duke model, and will likely replicate the adoption of Adventure-esque aesthetics and ergonomics of the rumoured 390 Adventure too.

Reports suggest that KTM and India’s Bajaj Motorcycles, with the latter being tasked to produce these models en masse in its plant, are jointly developing both bikes. But both the Austrian marque and is Indian partner have not confirmed this as yet.

Still, the idea of entry-level KTM adventure bikes with small capacities is intriguing us as much as it is with many fans, and we will keep close tabs on this as it progress. Until then, if you wanted an entry-level KTM Adventure model, you’d still be looking at the KTM 1050 Adventure model that recently celebrated the launch of its Malaysian-based CKD program.
